Could the commander’s basal instincts make the world better?

As David Brooks mentions in NYT, the commander: “…understands the thug mind a whole lot better than the people who attended our prestigious Foreign Service academies.”
Maybe thug on thug negotiations will work and the commander’s feral cunning is needed at this moment in history. We should be open.
Giving odds on success in any of the three current hot spots, I would be very careful. The upside is big but the downside proportionately worse and the commander could get lost:
- Not a big thinker
- Little awareness of history or culture
- Succumbs to flattery
But, maybe good things will happen:
- The Korean War is officially terminated, and a semblance of normal relations is established.
- Iran and Israel avoid war and Iran comes back to the bargaining table
- A trade war is avoided, and China opens up without partnership and technology restrictions
It would be nice to have more to go on than “we will see what happens”
