Safety versus Gun Sales We are not winning |
The National Rifle Association was founded in 1871 to advance rifle marksmanship, motivated by the poor shooting skills demonstrated by the Union army during the Civil War.
Since 1975 the organization has directly lobbied for favorable legislation by spending $millions donating to “A” rated candidates.
Favorable to whom?
Follow the money:
Total revenue in 2016 was $436 million. In 2015 CEO Wayne Lapierre took home $5.1 million for a job well done selling guns.
NRA receives $millions directly from gun and product companies such as Midway USA, Springfield Armory , Pierce Bullet Seal Target Systems, and Beretta USA and also sells them $millions of advertising for its media outlets (social, magazines and NRATV). Many companies donate portions of sales directly to the NRA. Crimson Trace, which makes laser sights, donates 10 percent of each sale to the NRA.Taurus buys an NRA membership for everyone who purchases one of their guns. Sturm Rugar gives $1 to the NRA for each gun sold, which amounts to millions.
For the NRA school safety other than selling guns to educators, banning automatic weapons and any restriction to access is bad for business.
Enough with the beholding, double talking, prayerful politicians. We need the students to teach us what is smart and doable with action.
